Balancing Privacy and Natural Light
We were contacted by a homeowner in Georgetown who wanted to enclose their open game room. Originally, the space was a balcony-style area with metal railings, open to the rest of the home. The client’s vision was to convert it into a more private, enclosed room by constructing a full wall that extended all the way to the ceiling.
While privacy was a priority, the customer didn’t want to lose the natural light that the open design had allowed. To meet this request, we installed three large picture windows along with a glass door, allowing ample sunlight to filter through while still creating a closed, functional space.
Final Result: A Functional and Stylish Upgrade
The result was a bright, enclosed game room that felt private yet open, thanks to the thoughtful use of windows and layout design. The customer was thrilled with how it turned out, and we were proud to help bring their vision to life.
Construction Details: Timeline and Challenges
The project took about a week and a half to complete. One of the more complex parts of the job involved working with the height of the wall, especially in the stairwell area. We also had to wait for the custom glass door to arrive. Additionally, we matched the customer’s preferred wall texture during the plastering process to ensure consistency with the rest of the home.
Flooring Integration: A Seamless Finish
Because we removed the stairwell railing and built a new wall, it left an open section in the flooring that needed to be addressed. Fortunately, we were able to find a suitable match and weave the new material into the existing floor, creating a seamless transition that looked as if it had always been there.
Smart Door Solution: Pocket Door Installation
Given the tight space around the stairwell and new wall, the client chose a pocket door—an excellent space-saving solution. It not only fit the new layout perfectly but also added a sleek, modern touch to the room.
Finishing Touches: Paint and Insulation
For the final finish, we used a Sherwin-Williams paint color called “Ida White,” which provided a clean, bright look that complemented the room’s updated feel. We also added soundproofing batt insulation throughout the entire wall, which made a noticeable difference—especially important since the new wall backed up to the garage.
